What’s the busiest time in the Texas hill Country?

We always give our guests the same advice—avoid Saturdays between 11 AM and 5 PM if you can. That’s the peak time when the 290 Wine Trail is packed, and many of the Top Texas wineries and places like Johnson City and Fredericksburg, TX are swarmed with wine tours and big bus groups.

You might pull into a winery and suddenly 20+ people unload from a wine bus or tram. It’s not a bad experience—it’s just a busier one. Staff gets tied up, tasting rooms are more crowded, and the vibe isn’t quite as relaxing.

Here’s our favorite tip:

Book a midweek stay if possible. You’ll skip the crowds, get better one-on-one attention at the wineries, and probably save a little money, too. Rates are often lower midweek, and everything from wine tastings to restaurant service is more laid-back.

On a weekday, if we drive down Highway 290, you’ll might see a wine bus—maybe one here or there.

But on Saturdays?

It’s much busier. So if you’re thinking of visiting Fredericksburg, Texas, consider visiting during the week.
