Chad and Keisha Watkins, owners of Wrenwood Ranch in Johnson City, Texas, were featured on the August 31, 2026 episode of Pretty Good Advice with Chip Gaines. The episode, “Chip's Advice on First Steps When Opening a New Business,” follows their conversation with Chip at the Magnolia Silos in Waco about building a business, opening an event space and figuring out what comes next.
It started with an instagram post. Just a few days later, we were sitting down with Chip Gaines at his Pretty Good Advice Booth in Waco, Texas to film what would later air on the Magnolia Network Youtube Original Series.
On Friday, March 13th, I was quickly scrolling instagram, when I suddenly stopped on one of Chip Gaines stories.
Chip Gaines...Magnolia Silos...An Advice Booth...March 20th...50 years of Experience. An open invitation to submit three questions for a chance to ask Chip in person. We could ask questions about business, life, faith, and everything in between.
The questionnaire asked: Would you be at the event in person?
Yes! We absolutely would be available to drive to Waco and meet with Chip in person.
We typed out our three questions, submitted them, and didn't think too much more about it.
What's are the odds? It is not going to happen.
The next day we were eating lunch when I received an email asking if we could speak with one of the producers. Yes! After a brief conversation and confirming we would be in Waco for the filming, we waited.
One more detail from the producers: no logos and no branded clothing.
We were careful. We checked every tag, every label, every stitch. And yes, if you look at that shirt, we took the very small label off my shirt.
Shortly before Chip arrived, the producers moved us off to the side in the shade and organized us into groups of five.
Directors, producers, and security kept everything moving with efficiently.
We watched and waited. Then, at 2:30, security started quietly asking the crowd to shift to the side. We knew what that meant.
Chip arrived and walked out to the Pretty Good Advice Booth on the Magnolia lawn. The booth was set, camera and audio technicians were in place, and the Pretty Good Advice booth was open for business.
There were around 80 people in line that afternoon from what Keisha and I could tell. The first group alone spent eight, maybe ten minutes with Chip. From where we were standing, we couldn't see much, only what other folks were sharing with us. One person shared "He is a great talker!"
We anticipated nerves, but when the time came, we were not as nervous as we thought we might be. Chip Gaines was exactly what you see on TV. Down to earth and the conversation just flowed.
So funny thing: we went to sit down and were a little too fast. Below is the raw video of us redoing our sit down.
He gave us his full attention like we were the only ones there. It felt like the cameras didn't exist, the crowd wasnt there, producers and directors weren't there and it was Chip and us.
At one point, I heard a soccer ball bounce awfully close to my left foot then bounce off my left boot while they were filming.
He was gracious in every sense of the word and is exactly what you see on TV.
Before we stepped away, he autographed one of our white Wrenwood Ranch books that was at one time in the Garofalo Cottage. We thanked him and the cameras kept rolling.
The whole production team - directors, producers, every single member of the crew, was incredibly friendly and accommodating.
If we hadn't had to make the drive back to Johnson City, Texas we would have stayed and listened to others questions.
